On December 20, 2023, Argentine President Javier Milei signed a decree of necessity and urgency (DNU) that repeals the Land Law, passed in 2011. This law established that foreigners could not acquire more than 15% of rural land of the country, both at the national, provincial or municipal level.
Milei's DNU eliminates this restriction, allowing foreigners to buy land without limits in Argentina. However, there are some exceptions:
The sale of land to foreigners that is on the banks of large and permanent bodies of water, such as seas, rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands, lagoons, glacial estuaries or aquifers, is not permitted.
The sale of land located in border security zones is also not permitted.
